Kenyan graduates may get more time to repay student loans under new Bill

What happened

Stakeholders in Bungoma and Busia want repayment to start only after graduates find work, not one year after finishing studies. They also want the proposed 25 per cent salary deduction cut to 10 per cent and loans made interest-free.

Why it may matter

  • This is time-bound — there is an application or deadline involved, so check the dates before they pass.
  • Fewer places or less money than before — plan around it.
  • Useful if you are trying to build a startup.
  • Affects students in Kenya.
