India approves five classical language research centres, including one at Tezpur University

What happened

The Ministry of Education has approved centres of excellence for classical Assamese, Bengali, Pali, Marathi and Prakrit. Tezpur University's centre will build on its manuscript digitisation work and expand research into classical Assamese.

Why it may matter

  • Approved, so it is now going ahead rather than being proposed.
  • Useful if you are trying to find an internship or study abroad.
  • Affects students in India.
